Wal-Mart calls off bid to build Supercenter in West Asheville
WEST ASHEVILLE - Wal-Mart officials have told city staff that they’re pulling out of a plan to build a Supercenter on Smoky Park Highway.
According to a letter submitted today to the city of Asheville by Troutman Sanders, LLP regarding the application for conditional zoning for the project, "Wal-Mart Real Estate Business Trust ("Wal-Mart") is withdrawing its application for Conditional Zoning to be heard at the April 11, 2006, City Council meeting.
"Wal-Mart is terminating this project and will no longer be pursuing this site."
Last week, Wal-Mart asked for a delay of today’s scheduled hearing, but then decided to go ahead with it.

We are fighting the Home Depot. Wish they would get out of our little town.
