In addition to the big training, other progressive luminaries will be appearing in our orbit. Markos Moulitsas will be at Malaprop's on May 5th signing copies of his book Crashing The Gate. Both Jim Dean (Howard's brother) and Jerry Meek (NC Democratic Party Chair) will be attending the training and will likely be about town. And Howard Dean, Chair of the Democratic National Committee will be in Mecklenburg County on April 28th.
In an email Q&A, Anne had this to say about the event:
- Who are you trying to attract to this event?
Anyone who wants to sharpen their activist skills to take their country back, i.e., put democrats back in control. And people who want to network with impassioned doers!
- What are the short and long term goals of the event?
To make better skilled activists, network/coalition build, have fun.
- Is it funding itself through fees, or is DFA putting money into it?
It is funding itself via fees that go to national DFA (i,e, they get the tutition, they pay for everything--food, trainers, venue, materials) ..Local DFA does the on-ground logistics (we don't get no money -- in fact most of us are also paying to do the training....DFA is a lean machine!)
- Will there be a group going to see the Doctor [Howard Dean] in Charlotte?
Informally, now about five of us have indicated interest --that's getting to be a second car if you wanna join us ... of course no guarantee of face time w/ Howie, tho we will do our best!
For more information, click here. There are already 82 confirmed attendees, and I suspect the last 68 tickets will get snatched up fast. If you've been wondering how best to expend your political energies this campaign season, DFA's event can get you focused and connected.
