Ok, if you don't get up on the Blue Ridge Parkway this weekend or before, you'll be very sorry for about a year. There's still more color to come in the middle mountains and the foothills, but the ride up to this autumn wonderland is lined with maple leaves blood red, sassafrass' warm yellows, late-blooming asters and a color palate as diverse as our wonderful ecosystem.
This is a shot of the Yellowstone lower falls looking across Graveyard fields. Even this Tuesday it was crowded and so was the Black Balsam parkinglot, but that's because that's all the tourists (and some locals) know to hike around. Look around at websites like HikeWNC, GORP or go to your own favorite hikes. But do it soon!

haven't been there this year but in general my favorite spot at this time of year is Max Patch...
well it's kind of one of my favorite spots whenever....
a bit of a drive from Asheville...(it's in Madison County) but so awesome it practically makes me cry every time I go there.
I went up Sam's Knob last weekend. Utterly stunning. Terrifically beautiful. So glad I live here.
