retraction: so excited about this use of public resources
Although a basic search revealed nothing in the media, my understanding is that there has been more than one serious incident involving assault in the surrounding area. You have an excellent point, nancymac. The State Troopers also made me wonder so I asked around. This is strictly word of mouth but I still retract my remarks.

That strip of Merrimon next to Beaver Lake is a training area for APD and State patrol. That's why they hang there. Locals know NEVER to speed in that area.
