Sky People Gallery Event Tonight

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Sky People Gallery on Lexington Avenue in downtown Asheville is hosting its Third Annual Altars of Alternative Religions opening tonight from 6pm - ?. Here's an excerpt from a Mountain Xpress writeup from the first year's AAR exhibit:
"The holiday exhibit Altars of Alternative Religions enhances Asheville's reputation as a mecca of diversity.

Some of the installations at dirt & Sky People Gallery are kitschy, glitzy and brightly colored; others are quiet and somber. But a surprising number feature common materials: candles, incense, feathers, bones, stones."

In past exhibits the altars have been alternately whimsical and reverent, and Sky People Gallery creates a wonderful atmosphere lending itself to conversation, reflection, and fun. The Gallery will be closing its doors at the end of the year, another victim of downtown's skyrocketing rent, so get down there before it's gone forever.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.usLocal photographer, James Fuller, and craft-diva, Gabriel Guyton, are taking advantage of this event to liquidate their booth at the gallery. Their flyer, featuring a Santafied Elvis and Clauseted monkeys, advertises handmade pottery, silk scarves, silver jewelry, note cards, paintings, rugs, pillows, and matted and/or framed photographs from Fuller's excursions to Africa and Southeast Asia. The items are priced to sell, and the pair plan to offer some tasty vino to entice you.

The event is a great opportunity to see the Altar Art, say goodbye to Sky People, and buy local as Christmas fast approaches. And after attending, you really ought to consider heading up to Woodfin to see the Feral Chihuahuas in their last free show of the season.

See you there?

Yes! another Lexington Queer Street establishment closed by the stink of filthy hippies! A great place for a parking garage and Starbucks this will make.
