Name your holiday now

Looks like the next bloggy meet-up is set. Yikes, that's, like, soon. And since we're actually going to be forced to use cutlery and act like grown-ups at EM's posh North Ashvegas villa, there'd better be some manners shown. syntax, sit up straight. Screwy, no more flicking those little marshmallows at Republicans at the table. ModPeas, napping is not an option this year.

Anyway, forget about the food thread thingy, it's time to name it now. Let's get things started in proper fashion- we need a name. Here's a few:

The Blog Pimps' First Annual All-Purpose Potluckery
Gobbler Groaning Board and Big Bird Extravaganza
Beer Guzzler and Gobbler Dish Give Thanks Party
Freebird

Don't worry, Ash, I don't expect you to act like a grown-up. And you'll be eating with plastic, my friend. On the floor. Out of the cat bowl.

I like the first and final names best. But if you think you're gonna be messing with our North Asheville wild turkeys, I will have to get out my whip.

the cat bowl works for me. (Houdini, the cranberry sauce is MINE.)

so it's NOT a turkey hunt and dinner party? shoot. i mean, don't shoot.

I like Screwy's suggestion - he said "gravy." he said "giblet."

Gravy Wrestling and Freedom March? I don't even really know what a giblet is...

that's what happens when you're a vegetarian for 14 years...

yea, he had me at "giblet"...

remember this simple equation:

leftover gravy + ice cube trays = GRAVYSICLES!!!

There will be NO giblet tossing in the villa.

How about Blog Pimps' Gravy Wrestling and Veggie Toss Potluckery?

First Annual BlogAsheville Potluckery and Tofurky Giblet Toss....

The giblet must stay I say,
It's too much fun to cast away,
Toss the giblets to and fro,
Just don't let Edgy see!
You know?

And so it is!

Nice Screwy.

Ummmm, I owe an apology to Ash for being a bit harsh yesterday. Sorry, guy. Big kiss.

And I don't live in a posh N. Asheville villa. Although there still will be no giblet tossing or turkey hunting allowed. And if you're going to imbibe Wild Turkey, bring a sleeping bag.

It sounds like total fun, and I wish I could make it, but alas I'll be up the mountain in Celo that whole weekend. Have a good time though y'all!

Damn! Damn! Damn!

Felicity! Any word on the Drinking Liberally locale?

Now it seems that E-spouse will be in town for the Giblet tossing (I never know where that boy is). So bring on the masses. More information and food thread closer to the date?

Sounds perfect, EM

Also, any ideas on how to interest more area bloggers in attending?

Vespere Hesperian said...

I have one idea, but there are a few problems with it. One problem is the fact that doing it the way I am thinking would be hard(or time consuming) to make sure that each person really had a blog or live journal or whatever. Another problem is depending on how popular it was it could actually end up attracting more people than you could be thinking. Plus the majority of them would be college student age which I am not sure that is what your looking for.

The idea is there is this site called Facebook (dont know if you have heard of it) and it is a site for college students to get on and meet new people, add friends, so on and so forth. You can also advertise parties or gatherings on there and I could post the BlogAsheville parties/gatherings if you all were interested. I could put any information you all wanted on it and people would then be allowed to RSVP to it. Again the issues above are the only problems. But if your interested I am willing to post it.

I think that some of the problem is that people don't check in over here often enough.

We could develop a mailing list to remind local bloggers of meetings. Send out one e-mail asking for input and one with the decided date and time.

How to get them to join a list? We could put a "join our mailing list!" button on the sidebar and shamelessly spend a few hours spamming our sidebar links with the new mailing list idea. Just one spamming round though. Wouldn't want to scare folks away.

I don't mind college bloggers, Ves. Anyone else?

Vespere Hesperian said...

Well Just let me know, I will be more the willing to post it on there if you wish and I can put anything in it that you want. Also what name did you all settle on, was it the Giblet Olympics one?

BlogAsheville Inaugural International Giblet Olympics and Gravy Guzzler.

The message board is a great idea as is the mailing list.

Come one, come all, as long as it's o.k. with Mama. Because if Mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy.

Vespere Hesperian said...

Ok well I will wait to see what she says about it. If she is against it since it is going to be at her place this time, I can always do it for future ones as long as no one else objects.

Edgy Mama said...

Like how many college students do you think would be attracted to my humble abode, Ves? As a former college instructor, the thought does make me a bit uneasy.

However, I do like the idea, Tea, of establishing an e-mail list. Ash and I are trying to do the same for Flasheville, so I'll be interested to see how it evolves here.

Vespere Hesperian said...

I have no idea, its hard to tell. Could be anywhere from none to a lot. Depends on how many of the students were interested. When I first throw out the idea I was thinking about using it more for the purposes of locations other than peoples homes, especially early on. Thats one reason why we waited to see what you said. If I had to make a recommendation is if your a little unsure of the idea since it is at your place then I would suggest holding off on my posting it since it uncertian how many would show up. I can always do this for future ones at none home locations.

Edgy Mama said...

Sounds good, Ves. If you personally have blogger college friends, bring them on, but at this point, let's not invite everyone to the Edgy Mansion. Ummmm, unless they babysit.
