i don't know yet... but i've got 600ish words so far! :)
i'm leaning towards carver-esque "slice of life" - you know, where the main character reacts to stuff and not much really happens, but in the process he or she ends up falling in love and confronting his or her long-estranged unspecified family member about some sort of issue and he goes back to the big city that he left the small town for. the kind of thing that when you read it at age 17 you're an english major for life.
or something.
i'll have a nanowrimo blog once i get a few chapters extruded.

OK, I took your dare and started my novel, "Filthy Hippies"
got chapter one up at 1815 words. I hope I live long enough to finish it!
"Filthy Hippies"... now that's a catchy title!
