some interesting doin's at the orange peel this weekend!
in conjuction with the ether music 2005 festival (an international gathering of theremin players that's being held here in asheville), a concert is being given tonight by internationally renowned thereminists lydia kavina and armen ra. show starts at 8:30, $12. i'm going to try to make it downtown for lydia kavina's performance, at least (i think she's headlining).
saturday is movie night at the peel! a double feature of theremin: an electronic odyssey (a documentary about leon theremin, the russian inventor of the instrument - this is worth seeing for the interview with brian wilson, who is completely frickin' bonkers in this footage!) and the day the earth stood still (the classic film that created the association of the sound of the theremin with flying saucers). it all starts at 8:00. tickets are $8.
either way, you'll be sure to get your money's worth!
