2009 Blogapalooza Awards Open Thread

So... This year's Extrava gets a spooky twist, happening the day before Halloween. And it gets a Web 2.0 upgrade with the addition of Twitter categories and social media.

So who do we vote for? This is our open thread for self-pimping and nominees.

The Adventures of Supermom is already leading a campaign for votes in a new category, Best Mom Blogger. And Don Mak is wondering what the good food blogs are. Asheville, who's got the blogs we need to vote for?

Julie of Bruisin' Ales is all over the nakedness -- here's hoping we get a report soon. Post your findings to BA, Julie?

(Uptown, you got some new blogs coming up for us?)

I know it's too late, but there are some great local podcasts as well. Maybe a podcast category for next year would be cool. So instead I voted chicken pop pod for Most Likely To Make You Laugh Out Loud

www.chickenpoppod.com/

It is a blog essentially. The podcasts are in each blog post, so, that qualifies right?

D'ohhh! I'll make sure podcast gets added next year, Don! Thanks!

I'm not nominating my blog, but letting you know it exists. It's a food blog. There are two other authors who have been MIA for months...they do not live in asheville...

I do and much of the food I use is local or out of my garden...

If it qualifies for inclusion on the list go for it. If because technically other authors may chime in from time to time it does not...no biggy.

and for my favorite post that features basil grown here in Asheville in my backyard see here:

I'm also MonicaTweeter on twitter. Jennifer, I've been following you for a long time!

I'm looking forward to seeing a lot of new, fresh blogs and Web 2.0 types in this year's winner's circle. Good luck to all and may the best blogs win. It's not easy blogging.

I've been at it for nearly 5 years now with my ephemera blog, and that's what makes this type of award event so exciting--some well-deserved recognition.

What?!!! SheWhoEats is alive and well. I know I've taken like a year hiatus (how do you all keep up with it?!) But I'm back, blogging a few times a week. Check out my review of Chai Panni, or an upcoming account of AB-Tech's culinary program exam dinners. www.shewhoeats.wordpress.com

I have you on a feed GourmetGrl...have often taken your suggestions on new food. I enjoy your blog a lot.

Hi, just wanted to say I'm looking forward to the event!

Also, before I knew this event existed I happened to have started a tumblr last week called Asheville Every Day. It's kind of a scrapbook of things I see around town. I thought I'd leave a comment here just to tell folks I'd love for you to submit photos, links, and videos, so we can turn it into more of a community scrapbook. Especially of everyone's Halloween costumes! :)

See you soon,
Lydia

When are the winners announced? Or do we wait until the par-tay to find out?

I'm excited about coming. Is there anything I can do to help Jennifer??

Jennifer Saylor said...

Michelle, winners are announced at the party. It's like the Oscars.

Help... We'd love setup and takedown help, decoration help... And if you can get anyone to sponsor us for some eats for the party, that'd be great! Got any restaurant connections? Ideas for raffle prizes?

I can't come to the party - too bad - I assume you will post the winners here?

Thanks!

I like Foodtopia and My Life in Cake for food bloggies. Also, thrilled to hear that She Who Eats is baaaack!

I'm trying not to self-promote (much), particualarly because I've been honored in the past.

That said, I still think some of the "old" bloggers are still the best!

Jason Bugg deserves to win everything, including "Best Mommy Blog", mainly because he's been called a mother constantly.

Max Cooper said...

Hey AvlBlgrs! I'm self nominating DarkTopography for Best Art/Photos AND Best Writing! If only there were a "Most Modest" category . . .

carrie turner said...

I guess it's time for a bit of my own shameless self-promotion...

I'd like to nominate my blog Nina (www.iwantnina.blogspot.com) for Best New Blog.

Thanks!

it's too bad there aren't "most self-indulgent", "most overrated", "most likely to copy and paste other people's material into a blockquote tag, make a snarky comment about it and somehow expecting people to think he or she is original" or "biggest douchebag" categories. or else i'd actually show up and give out these awards myself.
