Sawbones vs. Jawbones 2009

Local Doctors & Lawyers Set to Face Off On the Court

Doctors and lawyers are preparing for a rumble right here in WNC. This face off isn't what you might expect, however. Instead of being courtroom opponents, these MDs and JDs are athletic adversaries in the upcoming 2009 Sawbones vs. Jawbones basketball game.

Though there is some pre-game banter between the teams, the September 13th match-up is truly a light-hearted, family-friendly fundraiser for the Buncombe County Medical Society Foundation. "UNCA is providing some coaching so that things flow smoothly, but the feel is more like a pick-up game than stiff competition," said Alex Diez who heads the event-planning committee. There will be pre-game festivities for the kids to enjoy starting at 1:30pm. Highlights include clowns who will provide face painting and balloon animals, and basketball clinics with players from the UNCA men's and women's basketball teams. T-shirts will be available to get your favorite players' autographs. The other fanfare to count on includes full concessions, a silent and live auction, and a free-throw contest at half-time.

Sawbones vs. Jawbones 2009 is being held at the UNCA Justice Center, Sunday, September 13 at 3:00 p.m. with pre-game festivities starting at 1:30. Tickets are $5 at the door and all kids four and under are admitted for free. All proceeds from ticket sales and the silent/live auction will be used to benefit programs of the Buncombe County Medical Society Foundation. A donation will be presented at half-time to Pisgah Legal Services in appreciation for the Jawbones team participation in the game.
