Wild Freeborn Wants YOU to Buy Girl Scout Cookies

(UPDATE: YouTube took down Wild's video plea! Stupid GSA! Stupid YouTube! So we here at BlogAsheville are fighting back.)

West Asheville Girl Scout Wild Freeborn (bet you know who her dad is) is trying to sell 12,000 boxes of Girl Scout cookies to take her entire troop to summer camp. She's asking for local people to buy some cookies.

She's making it easy for you. If you live in Asheville, she and her family will deliver cookies to your home or office door.

Yes, this is a social networking experiment put on by local media types. Whatever. It's also my neighbor asking her community to support her in sending some local kids to camp. By buying cookies that everyone knows are good.

So Digg Wild's story, join her Facebook group, get your friends to join the Facebook group, spread the word, post to your blog.

But please don't forget the most important step: Buy some cookies! I got the caramel delites and the peanut butter patties. :0) What are you getting?

If you want delivery in Asheville, send an email with your name, address, phone number and cookie order to info@freebornasheville daht cahm. You can even order online here!

Click here to check out this year's cookies. There's some new ones you might not have seen!

Like I say in the video (recorded at last week's fabulous and well-attended Tweetup at Nine Mile), Wild is one of us. And this is a community that helps each other.

I am already counting down the days until my peanut butter patties land on my doorstep.

Matt is misguided at best.

Level playing field? So, if I went to sell cookies at the local grogery store, wouldn't I be taking that opportunity away from others? If I visited all the homes in my neighborhood, wouldn't I be taking that opportunity away from others?

Under the diluted thinking of Mr. Markie, that would not be fair either. In fact, I would have to invite every girl scout to come with me to sell cookies or risk having a competitive advantage. Rubbish!

And if you are going to spout off about being a good sister to other Girl Scouts, you should get your facts straight and avoid being a hypocrite.

She is doing this to send ALL her troop to camp. Also, it is a bit crazy to knock this girl down and derail her idea and then talk about being a good sister.

Lesson learned: do not attempt to think outside of the box. Or if you do, make sure Matt Markie does not live near you.

Wow, the cookie wars have begun. This will not end well.

Society continues to find ways to limiting women. The GSA is no different. Wild Freeborn will be unusually successful in her life. In doing so she will have many people throw obstacles in her way. This is truly a valuable lesson for her. Unfortunately, the lesson being taught by the parents who initiated the complaint will not serve their daughters well. They are doing just as much damage as parents who insist that their kid get a trophy just for showing up. Way to dumb down America's future young women GSA! Please continue to do everything possible to insure that all of the girls in your charge remain average. I would like to make a donation to Wild Freeborn's effort. I am in Atlanta so buying cookies isn't possible, but I would like to make a cash contribution. Will someone please tell the many of us wanting to contribute how we may do so. This is an opportunity for successful people to make a real statement.

Her father is teaching Wild that she can do whatever she wants- despite the rules. He admitted he knew Internet Sales are forbidden yet created the order site anyway. The National Girl Scout Org. has told them to take down the order form. It is still here! Not only is he sending the wrong message to Wild and other Scouts about disobeying rules to meet their own goals but he is exposing his daughter and her location to all the predators who scan the Internet looking for victims.

In Matt Mackie's comment he says
"The Girl Scouts of the USA Standards and guidelines for the 2009 sales program clearly state that the use of the internet is intended for advertising only,"

Isn't that exactly what Wild Freeborn was doing advertising she is trying to sell 12,000 boxes so her troop can do to camp. She was using tools available to her to sell. This form of advertising is better then Mom's & Dad's craming their girls sales flyers in your face at work or driving their girls to other neighborhoods going door to door to people they don't even know.

Go Wild!!! I will try to get a hold of you for buying my cookies this year because of your foward thinking and using update technology.

Go girl Go!! More girls should use their heads and think out of the box.

To Matt Markie, who said "The Girl Scouts of the USA Standards and guidelines for the 2009 sales program clearly state that the use of the internet is intended for advertising only (...)" and to Concerned who said: "Her father is teaching Wild that she can do whatever she wants- despite the rules" I can only reply:
RULES AND GUIDELINES ARE NOT WRITTEN IN STONE and MUST BE REVISED ACCORDING TO NEWLY ARISING CIRCUMSTANCES! The availabilty of new tools such as the Internet would be such a new circumstance, and outdated rules should be revised to accommodate for the creativity, cleverness and determination of Wild Freeborn to go for her dream.
Of course this girl believes that "she can do whatever she wants", you should realize that this simply means she believes in herself. And this is the foundation for SUCCESS in life. This is part of what the AMERICAN DREAM is about - is it not? And Wild's about to be real famous now, even the press in Germany has been reporting about her wild business idea. The Germans LOVE her! Surely, she deserves to go to summer camp, and I bet you she'll just DO it! Having some more "Wild Cookies" in this world would help us all.
Blessings, good luck and best wishes from Germany! Bless you for keep the American Dreem alive! Go, Wild, Go!!

Greetings from Germany, just read the story and wanna contribute something useful:

Imagine there is a kindergarten or another place in Wild's hometown which would get a donation with which they could buy cookies from her....

So, all ppl outside of the village could donate to the "Get-us-some-cookies"-campaign of a kindergarten.....and they, as locals, could pay the money to Wild...

What to you thing?
