Dear BlogAsheville

I know we've known each other a long time now. I know that the flush of new love comes like a hot, wet wind and that enduring love takes patience. I know.

That's why I want to write to you now. Our blog is languishing. Too many nights in front of our home blogs, too little focus on what we're all about, too much, too soon? I can't say.

All I can say is that our multidimensional relationship is worth nurturing, worth saving. I'm willing to work on it if you are.

We can start talking now. I don't know if it's right or wrong, but we need to save this crazy thing we've got going.

Talk to me.

Dear BlogAsheville,

You are a wonderful blog-mistress. However, the home blog does not receive much attention either. The struggle to survive in Asheville's tepid economy and provide for a family requires, at times 12-hour days and that takes precedent over blogging. This is not to call off our affair, but rather to explain the distance between our liaisons.

The home blog does take precedence, making BA the neglected mistress (how come there's a word for the woman in an illicit relationship but not for the man?).

Can we rally? What do we need to liven it up? Make a difference? More tipsy blogging? A blogathon? New blood?

What y'all think?

Blood sounds helpful.

Drunken rants might work out as well.

Maybe nudie photos?

BTW - Check out this fantastic shot of downtown Asheville at BlueNC:

Maybe BA needs more content like the Asheville Flickr "Day in the Life"... or something along that line...

i suggest some sort of project, short duration, easy to contribute to. the photo thing, day in the life of asheville is an example of this.

maybe some sort of monthly subject, weekly topic, something to focus on.

because this blog is basically a list of local blogs.

face to face time is maybe the best thing to come out of this enterprise, one which i am very thankful for. so let's climb a mountain, have a picnic, gather outdoors around a fire, leave the laptops at home.

BTW i think "gigalo" might come close to the term ms edgy is reaching for.

I'll submit a nudie photo if you do, Screwy!

Part of me was thinking that a good idea would be a "commitment ceremony" (gahh, I hate that phrase; it's so... so... euphemistic), where everyone involved pledges to post something, anything asheville-related at least once a week...

But another part of me was also thinking that would be akin to flogging a dead horse. There's a possibility that the BlogAsheville community has simply (and ironically) outgrown the blog format - or, at the very least, the "Blogger-Style" blog - as a means for networking, promotion and support.

It might be time to try something different, like a Scoop- or Drupal-powered community site similar in style (not necessarily subsstance) to a BlueNC or Daily Kos. Something that can act as both a blog and a forum. Something to think about, anyway...

Maybe if everyone with their own blog could contribute not just apicture a week but a post a week. As an avid reader might I suggest more posts pertaining to life in the city. Daily occurances, random meetings and photos. People without their own blogs check in to get the heartbeat of the city. Enlarge the links to local happenings (music, "comedy shows", cool places to eat, holes in the wall)so they don't seem like just a sidebar. Add weekly phots to the sidebars and update them often.
C'mon people, entertain me while I sit here on my ass. Parks and OUTDOOR RECREATION which we all live here for. Now next time I look over the top of my 2 gallon mug of root beer and my fallafal sndwich, I want to see some thing that says "WOW".

Good point mtnstyle--lifestyle posts always offer an intriguing look at the people that populate the Paris of the South.

2 Gallon mug of root beer? That's a WOW for me.
