The Asheville Citizen-Times is reporting "The four soldiers killed in a roadside bomb attack Sunday in the Pech Valley of Afghanistan’s Kunar province were all from the Asheville-based Alpha Company of the 391st Engineering Battalion.
According to Leslie Heater, Interim Family Readiness Group leader for the battalion, Commander David Boeke distributed an e-mail Monday night naming the soldiers who died. According to the e-mail, those soldiers are:
· Staff Sgt. Joe Ray, from Asheville.
· Sgt. Kevin Atkins, from Burnsville.
· Sgt. Anton Hiett, from Mount Airy.

Boeke said in his e-mail, “Please take a moment to pray for their loved ones as they bear this heavy weight of sacrifice and grief.”

Oh God, how sad.
I can't even imagine how much pain this will cause the families.
Thanks for this, Uptown. Joe Ray's parents and both sets of grandparents live in our neighborhood. Very sad.
