Community, Energy

Take the survey!

A Giant and Humongous Thank You

Pictured here are three local blogger types - and the two cohosts of Drinking Liberally - overlooking my giant new backyard. There were more bloggy people lying around my giant new deck in various states of exhaustion, bruising, cuts and so on from helping me move this past weekend. I have only this to say: Y'ALL ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

I truly could not have done it without everyone (nah, it's not done yet, but the toughest physical part is) and I appreciate it so much. BlogAsheville - not just a blog, but a community of friends. Wow, that sounds sentimental and dumb, so let's reword it: BlogAsheville - not just a blog but a KICKASS community of AWESOME friends. Who came over and spent a beautiful May Saturday helping me move.

So stop by and say hello. The beer is on me for the foreseeable future!

Bloggah Rise Up!

BlogAsheville's Second Annual Extravablogiversapaloozathon, a celebration of all things blogging and all things Asheville, is scheduled to take place on June 16th either at the Asheville Brewing Company or on Hangover Journal's back forty. Last year's event was packed, and dozens of new bloggers have joined the BlogAsheville blogroll since then.

Ash asks the key question, waiting and wondering whether the hidden bloggers among us will rise up, unplug, and party with the BlogAsheville community:

"What does it take to get bloggers to come out from behind their computer screens and meet one another?

We're tried offering free beer. We've tried hiring a live, kick-ass band. We've tried drunken bowling. We've tried hosting a yummy pot-luck dinner.

But each time, only a handful of the same people, who also happen to blog, come out. What's it going to take?"

Soon there will be an expansive Extravablogiversapaloozathon post gracing this page, but this is the brainstorming and puzzlement post. Who would you like to see get from behind their computers and into F2F? What ought we do to maximize turnout and goodtimes? Speak. Rise up, bloggahs. This is our time.

Last year it was the event of the season. Let's make this year's event even bigger, bloggier and diverse. Look at all of those [new] symbols on the blogroll. We've seen your work, now we'd like to see your faces.

Please let us know if you will be able to attend on June 16th at the Asheville Brewing Company, centrally located in beautiful downtown Asheville. Please click on comments and RSVP today or we'll be forced to keep pestering you mercilessly until you do.

How's June 16th for everyone?

Once we decide on a date, we'll do the whole nominating thing. I'm thinking of holding it at the Asheville Brewing Company unless someone wants to volunteer their home (Edgy Mama is still getting the stains out of her upholstery from last year's..."

Blogger Gets More Famousy

What the Hell?'s KB is featured in this month's Out In Asheville!

LINK - "As for the local experience, Bradley would recommend the blog "Drinking Liberally, a drinking group with a political problem." If you want to find out more about connecting in with the local blogging community, check out blogasheville.blogspot.com for a great start. You never know who might be reading you! And after all, that's the great thing about the Internet; the possibilities are endless. What does the Internet all come down to? For Bradley, it's "a force for serendipity in the universe." I, for one, would like to think that's the case.

Bryan Freeborn Serves It Up

City Councilman Bryan Freeborn serves up hot dogs at Vance Elementary for something having to do with Cinco de Mayo. I don't know what hot dogs have to do with Cinco de Mayo, nor do I know what Bryan Freeborn has to do with dishing cafeteria food. But I found the image at Ashevillein and had to show y'all.

Gotta love the Tourists!

WLOS' Bob Caldwell Announces His Retirement

After 41 years of guessing the weather, delivering outdoor reports, portraying TV clowns and otherwise looking befuddled and confused during WLOS' entertainment and pop culture news segments, Bob Caldwell, currently the longest-serving fixture on local television (including Greenville/Spartanburg), has announced that he will retire at the end July.

The Asheville Citizen-Times has the story.

In the meantime, don't fret - he's still ours for almost three months, and he'll still be showing off the best of what WNC has to offer to nature lovers on a regular basis.

I Love This Town!
